Pure and
simple, that is an apt description
for the ministry of Cedric Scott
(a.k.a. C.O.) and Derek Drew (a.k.a.
Slack), the dynamic duo of Holy Hip
Hop who have been making strides of
innovation and acceptance within both
the mainstream and Christian market
place since their inception in 1986.
The then trio, began when AM stereo
K-DAY, a 24-hour rap and R&B
station on the West Coast, started a
performing arts program to provide a
positive outlet for inner-city youth.

The name I.D.O.L. King
was inspired by Louis King, a very
close friend of the original trio,
who passed away of cancer. The
multi-talented King was the guiding
influence of the development of the
unflinchingly joyous rhyming skills
of C.O. and the righteously furious
turntable wizardry of Cut No Slack.
Due to King's positive influence on
their lives, the group wanted not
only to honor him by forming the name
I.D.O.L. King which stands for In
Dedication Of Louis King, but also
desired to reverence God by producing
music that could impact the lives of
others for eternity. I.D.O.L. King
soon opened the door for the then new
genre of rap--Christian rap or Holy
Hip Hop as it is now known and are
considered by many of their peers as
one of the first explicitly Christian
rap crews in California, if not the
world.

Amidst many of their
accomplishments, they have been
afforded the opportunity to perform
in a multitude of venues across the
world. Some of their most memorable
ministry efforts include: the
Somebody Loves You Crusades hosted by
Raul Reis; A three month evangelistic
tour of Denmark sponsored by Youth
For Christ Ministries; The Athletes
for Abstinence educational video done
in conjunction with David Robinson of
the San Antonio Spurs, Darryl Green
of the Washington Redskins, and A.C.
Green;
Television performances on the
Stellar Awards, BET's Comic View and
Teen Summit; and their most recent
journey to the Dominican Republic and
Haiti for missionary work in
association with T.E.A.R.S. ministry
and youth pastor Eric Knox.

I/K has also collaborated
and shared the stage with some of Christian and secular
hip-hop's most respected M.C.'s who range from the Cross
Movement, Sup the Chemist, the Dynamic Twins, Pigeon John,
the Grits, the G.O.G.'s, Prime Minister, Lil' Rascal, Southern
Gospetality, and the Gospel Gangstaz to the humanistically
philosophical KRS-One and lyrical lethal armament of ICECUBE
and Mack 10. With special performances and production by
Grammy and Dove nominees Angie and Debbie Winans, Cedric
and Victor Caldwell as well as Crystal Lewis and Kenny Smith,
IK has facilitated a kind of mainstream appeal for Holy
Hip-Hop long before most people had the notion such a genre
existed.
In addition to C.O.
and Slack's innovation and creativity
within the art of rap, they have also
become very gifted speakers who try
as best as they can to carefully
handle the Word of God.

The authenticity of
I.D.O.L. King is characterized by
their extreme dedication to the Bible
and its infallibility. C.O. and
Slack's biblical convictions and
devotion to "holding the mystery
of the faith with a pure
conscience" coupled with their
ability to "speak the truth in
love" provide the execution of a
powerful yet loving ministry.
