GODLY
LIVING
I. To be is always more important
than to do
Do -
This involves tangibles such as achievements, awards,
certificates, accomplishments, temporary things, name
in lights, the writing of books, titles, etc.
Being
- this involves intangible things that can’t be measured
by the physical figures, but takes a lifetime to achieve.
These things consists of a godly and holy life, verbal
consistency, marital fidelity, personal integrity, family
stability, pursuing Christ’s example in speech, love and
faith.
(1) This should be our focus
in life (Gal. 5:22,23;
1 Thess. 5:12-22; 2 Pet.3: 11-18)
(2) This should be the character
we strive for (1 Tim.
3:1-13)
(3) We should instruct others
in this manner (1Tim.
4:6-8)
II. What happens in me is always
more important than what happens to me
God has turning and breaking
methods that must be understood. Therefore, consider the
following passages of scripture.
(Job 5:7; Job 14:1; John 16:32,33;
Rom. 5:3-5; 2 Cor. 11:24-29; 12:10; Phil. 4:5; Ja. 1:2,3)
In me
– Faith; Peace; Patience; Love; Joy; Integrity.
To me
- Cursed Out; Temptation; Murdered; Pain; Pressure; Beat;
Sick; Stress; Having worldly props stripped away.
God is more concerned about
our character than our comfort. Therefore, His goal is
not to pamper us physically, but to perfect us spiritually.
"No man is illustrious
before the Lord unless his conflicts are many."
III. Being faithful is always
more important than being successful
When Jesus returns He will require
faithfulness
(1 Cor. 4:1-5; 15:58; Gal. 6:9,10)
(1) Keep Fighting
(2 Tim. 4:7,8)
(2) Don’t Quit
(1 Sam. 15:24)
Don’t give up, stay faithful
to the finish, and don’t compromise!!!
IV. Conclusion
God is looking for those who
are:
(1) Unique in their character
(2) Unparalleled in their commitment
(3) Unwavering in their courage
When we seek the authority of
the Word, and purity in our lives, then will our Holy
God make Himself known to us.
